After a long tenure for Barbara Butler as Professor of Trumpet at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York (since 1980) she is now Professor of Trumpet at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.   Ms. Butler was formerly Co-Principal Trumpet of the Vancouver Symphony, Principal Trumpet of the Grant Park Symphony and Acting Assistant Principal Trumpet of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Butler currently performs solo trumpet with the Music of the Baroque ensemble in Chicago, Co-Principal Trumpet with the Grand Teton Music Festival in Wyoming, and is a member of the prestigious Eastman Brass, an all-faculty brass quintet based at the Eastman School of Music. Butler has also performed several summers as Guest Principal Trumpet with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, Ms. Butler has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic, Grant Park Symphony, and the Chattanooga Symphony among others. She has also performed as guest artist with the Chicago Symphony Brass Ensemble concerts at Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart series and the Minnesota Symphony's Rug Concert series. She has also been a soloist and recitalist on national CBC Radio in Canada and on American Public Radio. She can be heard on recordings with the Eastman Brass (Pantheon), Music of the Baroque, and a recent recording for Two Trumpets and Organ performed with Charles Geyer (Gasparo). Ms. Butler has also recorded with the Vancouver, Chicago, St. Louis Symphonies and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Sought after for her teaching as well as performing skills, Ms. Butler presents masterclasses in this country and in Europe, most recently in Spain and Italy.
