Pat,

A year or so ago, I found & saved your description of how to properly approach blowing the leadpipe, but I can no longer find it. Do you have a copy or link to where you published it (TH Adam's forum or here at VTS - I searched but have been unsuccesful in locating it)?
I believe that it was based on letting the embouchure form around the airstream until the leadpipe resonated.

You mentioned that there are 4 notes possible, but most were only able to get 2 of them until advanced, and should really only concentrate on the main one (F).

I just received my leadpipe from John at Eclipse about a month ago, and would like to approach it correctly. Thanks.

I had to look for it, too!

I found a thread here on VTS where we discuss this at length. http://www.virtualtrumpetstudio.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=278&PN=1

My approach to this in my own playing these days is much more in line with what Alex describes-breath attack and on the soft side of things. That is working for me now at this stage, but I have done it a number of different ways. Remember that, as Bill says in that thread, this exercise should be done different ways by different people at different times in their development according to what they need. One thing that I do not think works is to play the pitches "between the slots" on the leadpipe. Play the sounds where they lay acoustically and play in phase with the leadpipe.

That thread should give you an idea of where to start.

Thanks Pat! How did you find it? I'll need to save it, so I don't lose it again.
