It's funny for a guy like me to see an article like this:
I know so liitle of the inner workings of an orchestra. I guess were going to be in big trouble here in Detroit. Everything is falling apart, school systems are going bankrupt, could spell real problems for the DSO in August 2010.

I think maybe it's time for orchestras to invent a new business model. The old one is not working, apparently. I'm not a businessman, so I can't conjecture, but something needs to change.
What I do find offensive about the article is that it implies at least that TCO is causing problems by striking. However, budget shortfalls and loss of revenue is simply a sign (to me, again, not a businessman) of a bad business model. Musicians seem to be making a good deal of sacrifice (ie holding wages with no increase until the next fiscal year begins, leaving seats open, which technically amounts to cutting positions via attrition). This is definitely the beginning of something. Weather it's good or bad depends on the actions of those involved.
